Springer Nature Author Symposium In-Person

Looking to get published? In cooperation with the UWA Library, Springer Nature is hosting an Author Symposium on Book and Journal Publishing. 

Find out about the role of publishing in today’s academic environment, how to decide what publications are right for your research, and what new developments such as open access and ebooks mean for academics and researchers.

Editors Lucy Bartonek (Springer) and Anton van Rensburg (Adis) will present on the following topics:

  • Book publishing

  • Journal publishing

  • Open access publishing

  • Best practice on writing abstracts and titles

  • Selecting the right journal

  • Avoiding predatory publishers

  • What reviewers and editors look for in articles and manuscripts

  • Australian scholarly publishing in the global context

Presenters
Lucie Bartonek
is Springer’s Melbourne-based Editor for Business , Economics, Politics and Law. Lucie is manages commissioning publications throughout Asia-Pacific. Lucie is directly responsible for books, book series and major reference works with a focus on authors and editors in Australia and New Zealand. Lucie joined Springer in 2019 and has worked in Scholarly and Professional publishing for over five years with 500+ publications under her hat across varied and diverse subjects to ultimately enhance, improve and shape better learning. Lucie’s passion is in the procurement of cutting-edge research from Australian academics to ultimately share and publish for global reach.

Anton van Rensburg is the Associate Editor for the Adis journal Clinical Pharmacokinetics. Based in Springer Nature’s Sydney office, Anton studied Medical Entomology in South Africa and then left research to work in the pharmaceutical industry. He joined Adis in 2006 working in the Adis Drug Evaluation Programme, and was appointed Editor of Adis’ first Open Access journal, Drugs in R&D in 2010 before taking up his current role in 2015.

Note: This workshop will be delivered in person, but will also allow participation via Zoom videoconferencing. Please indicate your preferred attendance mode on the registration form and the Zoom link will be emailed prior to the session for those who choose to attend via this method. Zoom attendees will not require a microphone or webcam but may need headphones.
